11 February 2025

Hi everyone! I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new Manager, Old Scholars Engagement at ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV School. I will be stepping into this role for the next 12 months while Candace Cox-Tuck is on leave.

To share a little about myself, I graduated from ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV in 2011 and went on to complete a Bachelor of Journalism at the University of South Australia. My career journey has been a blend of my two biggest passions—sport and ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV. I began my professional career at Adelaide United FC (AUFC), starting as a Media Intern before working my way up to become Football Operations Manager.

In 2023, I moved to London for a new adventure, spending the year exploring Europe, catching as many live sports events as possible (including many Liverpool FC games), and broadening my horizons. Since returning to Adelaide, I have worked at Volleyball SA and continued my involvement in sports as a Match Commissioner for the A-Leagues and Head of Football at West Adelaide SC. These roles have allowed me to stay connected to the world of sports and fuel my passion for dynamic, fast-paced environments.

I have also had a long connection with the ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV Old Scholars Soccer Club (POSSC), playing and coaching for many years in my early twenties, and returning for a number of games in 2024. Additionally, I have been a part of the committee, which has given me a deep appreciation for the incredible work our local clubs do to bring old scholars together and build a strong sense of ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV.

I look forward to strengthening the connection between the Old Scholars ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV and the school. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and share your updates, career news, or stories—we’d love to hear from you!

Below are some questions from our communications team to help you get to know me a bit better and feel free to connect with me at oldscholars@pembroke.sa.edu.au

What motivates you to help strengthen the connection between Old Scholars and the school?

I’m excited to build on the excellent work Candace has done in creating opportunities for personal and professional growth within the ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV.

My goal is to support both current students and Old Scholars, whether they have a clear path in mind or need guidance—just as I once did. If we can help even one person discover their passion, find a mentor, or step into a career opportunity, that would make this year truly fulfilling for me.

What is your favourite memory from your time at ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV School, and what were your favourite subjects?

My favourite memory is creating an amazing group of friends, many of whom I still speak to weekly and have travelled the world with. Over the latest holidays, we opened the old editions of Unitas and had a fun time reminiscing about the good times and laughing at our haircuts.

I loved Geography, Tourism, and Art. The teachers in those subjects really allowed me to be creative and think freely, which I appreciated. They created an environment in which I felt safe to express myself.

Can you share one of your biggest achievements in your career so far, and what you love most about working in sports?

Working at Adelaide United FC was a dream come true for a fan who used to attend games with my dad and friends. I had the chance to be part of the A-League Championship win in 2016 at Adelaide Oval in front of 55,000 fans and win three Australia Cups. As much as the players won the games on the field, the club always acknowledged the demanding work the staff did to ensure they were able to be out on the field. Overall, it was just the continued excitement of being involved in live events, the challenges, and the people you meet that make the job so rewarding. Being at the front of the action is a unique experience, and the adrenaline never lessens. I would encourage anyone to follow the path, and the stories and experiences you will have for the rest of your life are well worth it.

How did you find your career in sports media and management, and what made you decide to live overseas in 2023?

It was a case of being in the right place at the right time. While studying Journalism, I spotted an internship opportunity with Adelaide United FC and just decided to respond to the email. I ended up working there for 9 years across multiple departments, which gave me an in-depth understanding of the inner workings of a sports organisation. In 2023, I moved to London for a new adventure to further my career development, watched live sports, and travelled around Europe. It was an incredible way to grow personally and professionally. That experience allowed me to understand what I want to do for the next stage of my career, which has led me back to ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I am enthusiastic about sports and entertainment. Through my university degree, I found a passion for podcasting and video production. I started a podcast with Old Scholar Jack Mason (2011) and Connor McKenzie regarding film, television, and games called Screenblend. How successful it was does not really matter. We produced over 100 episodes between 2020-22, which was just an excellent way to catch up and talk about our passions (and also a reason to go to the movies every week). It is something we are looking to start back up again and has assisted me in feeling comfortable speaking in public and with large groups.

What’s your favourite way to unwind?

If it’s during the week and I have a day off, my favourite thing to do is head to the cinema and watch a movie that might not be mainstream—just disconnect from my busy phone and enjoy the moment. Otherwise, I will be in the kitchen baking my famous cookies.

What is your go-to coffee order?

Small Strong Iced-Latte, but a pet peeve of mine is it must be in a standard takeaway cup, none of this plastic cup with a paper straw business.

What are your four favourite movies? And any TV recommendations for 2025?

My four favourite movies are: When Harry Met Sally, La La Land, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Inception (though my list changes all the time!).

I just finished watching Shrinking and The Day of the Jackal—please watch them ASAP. I would also say Ted Lasso if it's still on your list.

If you could have dinner with three people, who would they be?

Steph Curry (Favourite Athlete), Jurgen Klopp (the man who changed Liverpool FC), and Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Studios).

Finally, what advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

Continue to work hard, believe in yourself, and understand that you will not have it all figured out. Find mentors that you can trust and be a sponge to all their experiences. As I said above, just say yes to opportunities—the doors it might open could take you anywhere.
