With an inclusive School culture that views each learner as unique, we believe shared and respectful understandings between students, teachers and parents create enriching academic and wellbeing benefits for all children.
Best practice Literacy and Numeracy programs are a hallmark of a ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV education, and our Junior School blends the Australian Curriculum with the respected International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), a curriculum framework applied by hundreds of schools around the world.
As well as having a Class Teacher dedicated to their learning journey, our Junior School students enjoy a wonderful selection of specialist-taught programs. A highlight is Spanish which is studied from ELC to Year 6 and is offered as a language pathway at ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV through to Year 12. Language learning is also nurtured through co-curricular programs in Mandarin, French, Italian and Hindi to help students develop language skills that may be fostered at home, and we provide expert support with English as an Additional Language.
Other areas of curriculum focus are Library, Music, Drama, Art, Physical Education and Health, and students also have a vast choice of co-curricular activities across The Arts, Sport and much more.
Stimulating and collaborative learning opportunities include staged musical productions in Year 2 and Year 5, a biennial Artist-in-Residence program, an exciting excursion and camp program, participation in interschool events and the IB PYP Exhibition which is the learning crescendo of the Junior School journey.
Year 6 IB PYP Exhibition
Our delightful ELC operates five days per week from 8.25am to 2.50pm throughout the four terms of the school year. Children who attend are aged 4, or turn 4 before 1 May of the year they commence. There are two classes, each with a teacher and qualified early childhood educator who apply guiding principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the IB PYP. The children also enjoy Spanish, Library, Music, Drama, Physical Education and Yoga lessons conducted by a team of specialist teachers. To learn more about our ELC, click here.
ÎÞÂëÁ÷³öAV also offers a Junior School Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) service which is delivered in partnership with the YMCA. OSHC is open Monday to Friday school days from 7am to 8.30am and 2.45pm to 6pm. There is an additional cost for this service which is payable directly to YMCA. These charges may be eligible for the Government child care benefit. The YMCA also offers a Vacation Care service as the Junior School is closed during school holidays. More information about OSHC can be found here.
